All wrong

I pour the olive oil on a small plate
white with a blue line just inside the rim
a line of summer sky
the oil a verdant promise of spring
expanding slowly like a change of seasons
or a lie passed from lips to ears

I grate the Parmesan cheese
into a snowdrift pile
at the opposite side of the plate
a different white, warmer
they are not fighters in their corners
they are lovers before the wedding

I tear a hunk of bread from the loaf
fat vicar hired for the service
crusty plump officiate
redolent of yeast and rosemary
one unabashed swirl marries oil to cheese
then consummation in the maw of desire

but, oh, a February wedding is all wrong!

Comments

I oughter include the fact it's Leap Year/Day and all that, but the origin of the pome is that it seems way too early in the year for such summery activities, don't it now?

I like the "maw of desire"

The whole thing is delicious. And FWIW I don't think there is any need for summer to be the only time for such treats ... unless fresh tomatoes are part of the scene (which, come to think of it, they should be). I especially enjoyed the bread vicar.

As one keenly aware of our culture's passion for doing-what-we-want-whenever-we-want-it, it just struck me as odd to be doing something that I, at least, associate with summer sunlight and warmth. True, bread is made the year 'round, and olive oil, though having a seasonal harvest, is never in short supply (in any decent world!). Same for Parm chz. (And the Tuscans, et al., might well take me to task for suggesting this activity is seasonal.) I might just have to ditch the title and last, almost extraneous line! Just to me it seems like summer fun. Although I dint mind doin it yesterday!
