Clayton Medeiros's Shared Poems

Silence

Perhaps the silence listens back
When we least expect to be heard,
A full moon walk on the beach
Among luminous waves, a reminder
Once again of who we are.

Perhaps the silence listens back
When we least expect to be heard,
A full moon walk along the lake,
The luminous path on the water,
A recollection of summer days.

Perhaps the silence listens back
When we least expect to be heard,
A full moon woodland walk,
Luminous light angled to the trail,
An expectation of dreams to come.

Cheers

Is it alright to shout “Hooray!”
When the airplane preview’s
Bold letters say there are
Adult themes available to be
Seen on the tiny screen

Is it alright to shout “Hooray!”
Hopeful one will miss out
On failed dramaturgy
Twelve year old tired humor
Thirty something irony

“Hooray!”

The Doves and I

I suppose, if I spent more
Hours on this chaise lounge,
With views through the
Banyan trees to the beach,
Or over the green canopy
To translucent peach clouds,
I could see the differences
Between one dove and another.
I would see the particulars
Of each dovish blue face,
The checkered gray and black
Of each gently, feathered neck.

Visiting October New England

Often lost in books, words, stories,
A long ago childhood, a distant time,
A place with a mixture of misty relatives,
A place where I understood the seasons,
Each with its own sunlight and clouds.
A place where I misunderstood others,
Each with their own sensibilities and lives.
A place where I return for tastes of childhood,
Each with its flavor of the sea, Portugal, Acadia.
A place I travel to and see with new eyes,
Familial ghosts and the living of New Bedford.
A place on Cape Cod, where it curls into the Atlantic,
Jostled by Humpback whales with curious eyes,
Melville wondering who and what we have become.

Triplets

Just in case
You wondered
This poem is
Limited
To this page
To what comes
To my mind
In these words
This moment
Capable
Of being
Rhetoric’s
Repartee
Philosophe’s
Wonderings
Momentary
Meanders
Past’s present
Here and now
In these words
