all my first drafts are abhorrent
obese, vague, wandering,
and stuffed to the retch nerve
with unessesary adjectives

each one ugly as a
just-hatched cuckoo
naked and sticky with
bits of shell

an abomination
with beady eyes
and yawing beak
demanding to be
nurtured
